Project Details
The Brook Green project involved the strip out of a commercial office building back to the existing structure for a future refurbishment project. The building was approximately 14,000m2 over 6 floors.
The building is located in a busy area of Hammersmith with adjacent Commercial Offices, Residential Properties and a school to the site boundary. The site also has a shared roadway which provides access to the existing loading bay, but it is located immediately adjacent to the residential neighbouring properties.
The project planning requirements dictated that the shared access road / loading bay could not be used for site waste removal therefore all site waste had to be removed from an alternative location. To overcome the waste removal challenge, our team negotiated a pit lane and loading gantry on the Brook Green elevation at 1st floor level with Hammersmith Highways Department; a pit lane and loading gantry on the Brook Green elevation at 1st floor level, this allowed site vehicles to be loaded without disrupting the highway or public footpath on a wait and load basis.

Our scope also included the survey and removal of the asbestos within the existing building, the asbestos removal process was quite extensive in some locations but our team managed to re-sequence the soft strip works to minimise the delay to the overall project duration.
As the soft strip works progressed down the building removing the riser enclosure walls, we exposed the existing structural openings through the RC floor slabs. To maintain safe edge protection to the openings we installed our K guard edge protection system.
To transport all soft strip waste from the upper floor levels, all materials were loaded into wheelie bins which fitted within the existing lifts on site. The existing lifts were protected and maintained for the majority of the duration on site and finally removed once no longer required.
The soft strip works progressed well and we had no complaints from our surrounding neighbours during our works on site.
On this project the total tonnage diverted from Landfill was 884 tonnes.
