Project Details
The Palmerston Court project consisted of the demolition of a number of large structures within an island site location in Battersea. The buildings construction varied between steel portal frame, concrete frame and traditional masonry construction. The plan area of the site was 2400m2 and works included the asbestos removal, soft strip and demolition of the structures down to the underside of the existing ground slab. There were also large existing foundations to the building perimeter and two existing basements which were to be removed to facilitate the follow on construction activities. The removal works required a full temporary works scheme to be designed to obtain an AIP from the local authority. Once all hard obstructions had been removed we carried out a reduced level excavation across the site including the pile probing process to the line of the new secant piled wall.
The primary demolition methodology on site was the use of High Reach Machinery whereby the brickwork facades were progressively demolished and the steel frame cut and lifted from position for processing on site ready for recycling.

We were the Principal Contractor for the duration of our works on site, during this period we developed a strong working relationship with the client team and the neighbouring properties to ensure the success of the project and a clean handover to the Main Contractor.
This project required a long Pre Demolition period as we had to obtain form “C” approvals from Network Rail. Some of the structures to be demolished were in close proximity of the mainline railway. There was also extensive liaison with the Statutory Service Providers to locate and assist with the termination and diversion of the perimeter footpath services in advance of the perimeter secant piling works.
To highlight the success of the project we organised progress drone flight videos of our work at Palmerston which has now been produced into a timeline video which we now use to promote our demolition works.
